Customer Specific Questions

What is OurTracks? OurTracks is an Independent digital music store. We offer singles and albums in mp3 format from your favorite Independent artists.

Why is OurTracks lacking in a certain genre? Admittedly, we are headed in the direction of our current contacts in the music business for building our library. While we certainly would like to think that your genre would be covered in the long run, we realize that may not be enough satisfaction for some in the short term. If there is an artist you would like to see listed by OurTracks that is currently not listed, please feel free to contact us at info@ourtracks.com and let us know. Better yet, feel free to contact the artist yourself and let them know that they need to hurry up and get on OurTracks!! Rest assured that the OurTracks staff is currently out scouring your favorite hole in the wall bars and dancehalls in order to make available the artists you want to hear.

For Artists By Artists...What do you mean? OurTracks' owners are all either Artists or Songwriters or both! We arrived at the idea for OurTracks due to the lack of avenues for Independent artists to offer their music digitally to the world. As aspiring artists ourselves, we are truly committed to making this business focused upon the artist and to ensuring that our artists succeed.

How do I purchase a song or an album?

Please view our How It Works section for detailed information on how to purchase from OurTracks.

What do I need to be able to use the OurTracks service? A computer with an Internet connection and a program that can play MP3 files (i.e. Winamp, Windows Media Player, Musicmatch Jukebox, Whamb for Mac OS X (download it here) or XMMS for Linuxetc.) OurTracks recommends Winamp!

In what audio format are the songs encoded?

All songs on OurTracks website are MP3 files and encoded at 160 kbs VBR (variable bit rate).

What is Digital Rights Management (DRM) and does OurTracks use any DRM tools? DRM is an umbrella term for any of several arrangements which allows a vendor of content in electronic form to control the material and restrict its usage in various ways that can be specified by the vendor. Most services like OurTracks restrict the number of times you can burn a song you have downloaded or restrict the transfer of that song to another computer. ALL of OurTracks. music is free of these limitations. There are no technology imposed usage restrictions on the files you download.

While you won't find MP3 files with any restrictions on OurTracks, all of the songs we sell are still works protected by copyright law and we ask that you respect that. We provide hassle free music and in turn ask that you do not share these files with those that have not purchased that song or album from the artist previously. In the OurTracks. format the main person who gets hurt due to shared music files is the artist and that is unacceptable to us.

How much does it cost? OurTracks recommends that albums are sold at the price of $10 however, the artist and or label may set their own prices on an album (individual songs are priced at $1 regardless).

How can I pay? OurTracks accepts VISA, MASTERCARD, AMERICAN EXPRESS and DISCOVER credit cards presently. We do plan to add a Paypal choice in the future although that is not currently available.

I don't like the song or album I downloaded, can I get a refund?

All sales are final. Before you click purchase on the payment page, make sure that what you're about to order is correct. We have a NO REFUND POLICY.

How fast does my connection need to be to download songs?

Any connection will work. Most of our files are typically 3 megs, which will take approximately 14 minutes to download on a 28.8 dial-up, 7 minutes on 56.6 dial-up, and less than one or two minutes on broadband.

What if I cannot complete the download following my purchase? We give you a 24-hour timeframe to download the tracks. If your file should not complete for any reason, please go back to My Tracks and attempt the download again. If you do not complete the download within the 24-hour period, please contact us at support@ourtracks.com.

What if I download a song and it is defective or skips? We do everything we can to make sure our songs are perfect, but in the rare occasion that you download a defective track, please email support@outracks.com.

Artist Specific Questions

May I price my own albums for download? OurTracks recommends that albums are sold at the price of $10 however, the artist and or label may set their own prices on an album (individual songs are priced at $1 and albums must be set in the $5-$15 range per disc). If there is an issue with the album pricing range, please contact us and we can work it out.

Will I be able to use other outlets to sell my music digitally if I were to sign up with OurTracks?

OurTracks does not retain the right to sell your music exclusively. While we.d love to be the only company to actively sell your music digitally, you have the right to work with any other company that you would like.

How much does it cost to signup with OurTracks?

There are no sign up costs! Signing up with OurTracks.com will not cost the artist or label a penny other than providing us with the music. Our goal, unlike many other digital music sites, is to have a vested interest in selling your music. We want to see you succeed and not just earn profits off of you listing your albums!

Can anyone submit his or her music to OurTracks? There is a quality review done following an artist submission to OurTracks. The music must be professionally recorded in order to pass our quality review. If you have any questions on whether your music is of professional quality or not, please contact us at info@ourtracks.com.

Should I submit my album art? Album art provided with the CD will be scanned and used to represent your CDs on the artist and CD pages. If album art is not provided, either we will request an image from you, use an image from your website or we will use an N/A on the image for that album.

What does OurTracks payout percentage look like? OurTracks pays out on a sliding scale based upon how much revenue that artist has brought into the site. For a table on this scale, see the last page of the Artist Agreement contract. OurTracks has intentionally set the scale on the high side to start to make sure that we cover our costs at launch. We will come down in revenue on the scale if artists are not placed throughout the scale fairly.

How often will OurTracks pay the artist? OurTracks will payout out to the artist on a monthly basis. Artists may choose to receive pay less frequently or once the amount of pay reaches a certain amount. Currently, you must contact us at support@ourtracks.com in order to apply this setting. OurTracks reserves the right to alter the payment schedule in the future.

If you have questions regarding OurTracks that were not answered in our FAQ, please send them to info@ourtracks.com and we'll be happy to respond. Thanks!
