DesChamps Band
The DesChamps Band serves up a unique mix of bluegrass, folk, swing, and jazz vocals backed by guitar, fiddle, and upright bass as they celebrate the musical heritage of Uncle Walt's Band who reached legendary acclaim in Austin some 30 years ago.
Based in Uncle Walt's hometown of Spartanburg, South Carolina, this acoustic quartet has recaptured that Uncle Walt's magic playing to audiences from Austin (2004) to Nashville to Lexington to Charlotte & the Carolinas, and continues to captivate music fans with their finely tuned harmonies and musicianship as they build upon that Uncle Walt's legacy with their own finely crafted originals.
They've shared the stage with Ricky Skaggs, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Del McCoury, Junior Brown, and David Ball to name a few. Texas performer Lyle Lovett is quoted saying: "It is such a comfort to see (Champ and Walter) live on through these young musicians."
Led by guitarist/vocalist Marshall Deschamps Hood, the band is named in honor of Hood's late uncle, Champ Hood, the stringed instrument ace who died of cancer in 2001. The Deschamps Band is patterned after Uncle Walt's Band, an influential group that included Hood, the late Walter Hyatt and David Ball.
